“Ambulance Seven Ten Is In Quarters”

Ambulance 710 (2010 Ford E-450/Horton)

At approximately 1700 hours today, the new Ambulance 710 found a parking spot at Station 10. First off, the membership of CJPVFD would like to thank all of those who have and continue to donate to the department that help make the ambulance possible. Another big thanks goes to the members of the ladies auxiliary who help keep the donations coming in. As you will see printed on the side, “Your kind donations made [the ambulance] a reality”.

The new unit is a Ford E-450/Horton Concept 3 ambulance that is powered by a Ford PowerStroke Diesel engine. The unit has many features that increase ease of use and the available of “creature comforts”. Such features include a multiplex wiring system that allows simple control of compartment climate and lighting, as well as large, well-lit compartments. Also the new ambulance allows many of the inventory and equipment used by EMTs in the back to be accessed with little movement, so that members do not have to become unbuckled, which poses an obvious safety hazard.

There are still many “little things” that need to be completed before you see the new unit rolling down the road. On top of quadruple-checking to make sure that donors got everything they paid for members will have to go through operational and inventory training as the result of marked changes. We invite you to stop by and see the new unit because, after all, it was purchased by the people for the people.

Volunteer Fire Chief Draws National Honors

The Gazette – Jim Seavey doesn’t practice what he preaches, but that may just be why he was recently named Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year by Fire Chief Magazine.

The chief of the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department makes a point to sit down with all new volunteers in a session he calls “Getting Real with the Fire Chief.” He tells them that volunteering with the fire department should be a fourth priority — following family, work or school, and, if they practice it, religion.
