Airboat 730 M/A To PG County For Fire At Home Depot

On Tuesday May 21st, Airboat 730 was special requested along with Airboat 740 (Sandy Spring VFD) for a fire in neighboring Prince George’s County, MD. Although an Airboat is typically associated with Water Rescue calls (specifically in areas too shallow for our other boats, or ice rescue situations) Airboats can provide another function: ventilation. By leaving the airboat attached to its trailer, the fan that normally propels the boat is used to force large amounts of air into a building to push smoke and other bad air out. Here is a description of the fire from Prince George’s County Fire Department Public Information Officer, Mark Brady:

At around 3:30 pm, Tuesday, May 21, firefighters responded to a report of a fire inside a Home Depot Store in Capital Heights. Fire/EMS units arrived at the large, box style, 1-story home improvement store on Hampton Park Boulevard with smoke showing. A fire involving products that included patio furniture and other outdoor items on shelves was located just inside the store between the main entrance and garden center. This area is where seasonal products are typically stored.
