“You would like to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)”

 To Become a Firefighter at Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department, you must be 16 years and older, in good physical condition and have the desire to fulfill all requirements for membership at CJPVFD.  No experience is necessary. Becoming an EMT requires commitment to serve as a volunteer, the desire to help others and a serious commitment to the community, the department and to members who you serve with.  The process of becoming a volunteer should not be taken lightly. It is a time intensive commitment requiring successful completion of a probationary period, several classes and many hours of training training (125 hours of class time are required) to ensure that you are able to serve in challenging and potentially hazardous situations.

 

The Fire Rescue Service is an extremely demanding profession which can involve grave danger and the risk of serious injury. Your decision to volunteer should not be taken lightly.

 

Becoming an EMT provides a great deal of reward, satisfaction and excitement during the various situations that you may encounter on a call.  You may provide medical treatment at fire scenes, provide lifesaving CPR and defibrillation, assist with water rescues along the Potomac, provide medical assistance in various situations including car accidents/extrications, water rescues, perhaps deliver a baby on the beltway as one of our volunteer members has done, and assist with ensuring the safety of property and life and all the while encounter situations requiring camaraderie, teamwork, safe thinking and communication.  Our area of Cabin John provides a myriad of opportunities from calls on the Beltway, the Potomac River and the area of West Bethesda and Potomac.

 

We offer training to advance your skills past the EMT level to become a Paramedic in the state of Maryland. There are endless opportunities for training and advancement of your skills to meet your desires.
